Managing Your Study Time

Time management is a key element to successful studying. To excel in your studies you must be able to effectively management and make the best use of your time. Always remember, you only have so much time so use it as effectively and efficiently as possible. The following is a strategy for effective time management.

Step 1 – Prepare a calendar at the beginning of the semester. The following are the steps to follow to prepare a calendar.

* Write down your assignments, assignment due dates and your test dates.
* Write down your school activities
* Write down your extra curricular activities

Step 2 – Prepare a weekly schedule and update it throughout the week. The following are steps for preparing a weekly calendar.

* Make a list of your daily classes.
* Check your semester calendar and write down on your weekly schedule anything from your semester calendar that needs to be completed that week.
* Review your previous week’s schedule to see if there is anything from the previous week that needs to be added to your current week’s calendar.
* Add any extra curricular activities to your weekly calendar.
* Add any due dates for projects, assignments or tests that fall during that week.

Step 3 – Each day prepare a daily organizer for the next day. The following are the steps for preparing a daily organizer.

* Enter uncompleted items from your previous day’s organizer to your next day organizer.
* Add things to do from your weekly schedule.
* Add any school activities to your organizer that are occurring the following day.
* Add any extra curricular activities occurring the next day.

The purpose behind creating a term calendar, weekly schedule and daily organizer is to help you maximize the use of your time.
